Since the declaration of the War on Drugs by President Nixon in 1971, few lives have thrived while many more have been destroyed, both directly and indirectly, due to sweeping incarceration rates and heavy sentences for minor infractions.
Generations of American youth have been born into this dysfunctional war, and our perspective on the issue does not match the ideals which put this policy in place over 45 years ago.
We can only support each other. Change is now, and we must let that message be heard.
